Welcome to the Law Offices of Mark C. Shumar
At The Law Offices of Mark C. Shumar, we are strong advocates for our clients. We have handled thousands of accident injury cases. 99% of our cases are successful. Most of our cases settle prior to court. In fact, cases are usually settled shortly after our client completes his or her treatment. We do not believe in delay. We will discuss all settlement demands and offers with our client before any settlement with the responsible party or insurance company.
If the responsible party or insurance company is unwilling to treat our client respectfully by offering a reasonable settlement amount, we will move to file a complaint with the proper court immediately. After filing the complaint with the court, the responsible party or insurance company will often contact our office in hopes of reaching a settlement prior to initiating litigation. However, we are prepared to handle our client’s case through litigation and trial.

Areas of Legal Practice
Many serious personal injuries are caused by automobile and truck accidents. We represent drivers, passengers, and pedestrians in all types of accidents. Automobile and truck accidents may involve negligence on the part of drivers, including drunk driving and reckless behavior. If the responsible driver does not have insurance, we can often pursue an "uninsured motorist" claim.
Riding a motorcycle can be a great way to travel. Unfortunately, some drivers of other vehicles often do not look for motorcycle riders and serious injuries result. Motorcycle accidents are unique and we have experience handling these cases. We will establish legal responsibility, the recoverable damages, and obtain the settlement or judgment that our client deserves.
The sudden, unexpected loss of a loved one is shocking and painful. We understand the devastation and grief that families feel when a relative is killed in a preventable fatal accident. The emotional and financial challenges to the surviving family members can be overwhelming. We can help you hold the responsible person or company financially responsible to the maximum extent under the law.
Under California's strict liability laws, a dog's behavior is always the responsibility of its owner. The owner is liable regardless of the dog's breed or the reason for the attack. A dog's owner cannot avoid liability by attempting to prove that he or she did not realize the dog would bite or by stating that the dog had never bitten anyone in the past.
We rely on our doctors and medical providers to competently care for us when we seek treatment. When negligence on the part of a medical professional leads to medication errors, misdiagnosis or even a complete failure to diagnose, serious complications can happen. We will confer with medical experts to determine if injury or death occurred as a result of avoidable negligence.
